KUCHING, Oct 27: Sarawak is turning to international expertise to strengthen integrity and accountability in its public service through a collaboration with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Vienna, Austria.
According to TVS, the collaboration will see 70 Certified Integrity Officers (CeIOs) in Sarawak participate in the Sarawak Regional Governance Leadership Programme 2026, aimed at enhancing their ability to identify weaknesses and strengthen integrity practices within their respective agencies.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the programme is expected to equip the officers with the knowledge and confidence to uphold professional standards and address non-compliance based on facts and regulations.
“The exposure is expected to broaden integrity officers’ knowledge and enable them to apply best practices in their respective agencies, ultimately producing professionals who are confident, principled and courageous enough to address weaknesses and non-compliance based on facts and regulations,” he said.
The four-day programme will take place at Pullman Kuching from Nov 2 to 5, with its content adapted from IACA’s flagship Regional Summer Academy (RSA) programme to suit the needs and context of Sarawak’s public service.
It is the first collaboration of its kind in Borneo involving the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS), Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence Sdn Bhd (SCOPE) and IACA.
The programme will focus on four main areas: international cooperation and integrity, innovation in corruption prevention, good governance and ethical leadership, as well as corruption reporting and accountability.
Juanda said UNIONS and IACA would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a long-term partnership in capacity-building, knowledge exchange and professional development in integrity and corruption prevention.
“The collaboration will also create opportunities for Sarawak civil servants, particularly CeIOs, to explore participation in IACA’s Regional Summer Academy, either at the academy itself or in other countries,” he said. — DayakDaily
