Zero fatalities silver lining amidst 185 new Covid-19 cases in 16 Sarawak districts

KUCHING, Feb 21: Sarawak reported zero Covid-19 fatalities today but remained firmly in three-digit territory with a tally of 185 new Covid-19 cases in 16 districts.

According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, there was an increase of 51 cases or 38.05 per cent compared to yesterday (Feb 20).


The 16 districts recording new Covid-19 cases are Sibu (82), Kuching (29), Kapit (20), Sri Aman (11), Bukit Mabong (10), Bau (6), Bintulu (6), Song (5), Samarahan (4), Miri (4), Kanowit (3), Serian (1), Sebauh (1), Julau (1), Sarikei (1) and Belaga (1).

Out of the total, 96 were from close contact screenings across 10 districts namely in Sibu (67), Kuching (11), Bau (6), Kapit (4), Song (3), Bintulu (1), Miri (1), Samarahan (1), Kanowit (1) and Julau (1).

Other than that, 31 cases were uncovered among those who underwent swab tests at health centres in Sibu with 13 cases, Kuching (11), Miri (3), Bintulu (2), Belaga (1) and Sebauh (1).

Eight symptomatic cases were found today: Bintulu had three cases, Kapit (2), Kuching (1), Serian (1) and Sarikei (1).

Two health officers tested positive for the coronavirus in Sibu health facilities and another two in Kuching.

Meanwhile, there were a total of 46 new cases related to active clusters in the state.

The Gelong Cluster added 19 cases today, with nine in Kapit and 10 in Bukit Mabong.

The Pasai Cluster also saw cases in Song (2), Kanowit (2) and Kapit (1) while four more cases in Kapit were traced to the Jan Yong Cluster.

The Jalan Green Cluster registered three more patients in Kuching, Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster confirmed one in Kuching, Kejatau Cluster saw 10 in Sri Aman, Sebangkoi Cluster had one in Sri Aman, and finally the Univista Cluster reported three cases in Samarahan.

With these 185 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 7,943.

SDMC also reported 195 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sibu Hospital (87), Miri Hospital (57), Sarikei Hospital (20), Sarawak General Hospital (15), Kapit Hospital (14), Bintulu Hospital (1) and Limbang Hospital (1).

In the meantime, 2,066 patients are still receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.

There are, in total, 191 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases and seven cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There are also 608 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) who were registered into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined, and a total of 5,228 individuals under quarantine in 84 hotels throughout Sarawak while 66,758 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine. — DayakDaily
