MIRI, May 3: A 20-year-old man from Pujut Adong, here, has been remanded for six days to assist police investigation into a child molesting case.
The suspect was detained on Labour Day inside a Men’s toilet of a shopping mall at Jalan Post by the mall’s security guards.
It is understood that a security guard spotted the suspect bringing two girls, one aged 5 and the other 7, into the toilet at 3.35pm in a very suspicious manner.
With a colleague, they tailed the suspect to the toilet on Level 1. Upon entering the washroom, the security guards allegedly heard the two girls crying inside and begging the suspect to let them go.
When the suspect ignored their pleas, the security guards then demanded that he unlock the door immediately, but he refused. The security guards then adopted Plan B — climbed into the toilet.
Meanwhile, the police were also alerted of the incident, and the suspect was produced in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for a remand.
The offence is framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault on a child, which carries imprisonment of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction. — DayakDaily
