The land title was handed over by N14 Batu Kawah assemblyman Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian during the temple’s recent celebration of the Deity Guan Yin’s birthday.

Dr Sim, who also serves as Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG) Sarawak, praised the committee members for their unity and dedication, which were instrumental in securing the title.

In his address, Dr Sim expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Land and Survey Department, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in making this achievement a reality.

He highlighted the Sarawak government’s commitment to inclusivity for all religions, as demonstrated by the establishment of Unifor (Unit For Other Religions).

“The establishment of Unifor, Malaysia’s only such unit, stands as a testament to this commitment.

“Numerous Chinese temples have benefited from Unifor’s funding for construction, expansion, and renovation projects,” he said.

The minister also spoke about the temple’s initiative to offer incentives to members’ children with outstanding academic achievements, emphasising the Chinese community’s strong commitment to education.

He noted the role of temples and community associations in nurturing young talent, contributing to the holistic development of the community.

Additionally, Dr Sim announced that starting in 2026, students, including those with Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) qualifications, will be eligible to enrol in any of the five Sarawak-owned universities under the State’s free tertiary education scheme, provided they meet the entry requirements.

The Tze Yin Yun Vun Kiong Temple, covering over two acres, has been transformed into a magnificent religious site under the guidance of its committee members.

Dr Sim commended this transformation, which not only enhances Batu Kawa as a tourist attraction but also serves as a central hub for various community activities. — DayakDaily
