KUCHING, Jan 27: Yayasan Sime Darby (YSD) has so far committed RM60 million via three donor companies to implement initiatives in Sarawak through industries that can help the communities in the region.
Its chairman, Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja’afar, said the three donor companies are SD Guthrie Berhad, Sime Darby Berhad, and Sime Darby Property Berhad.
“Through this foundation, we have channelled RM60 million to Sarawak, particularly in education, environment, community health, sports, and arts and culture.
“These areas are what we call the ‘main pillars’,” he said as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
He said this to the media after paying a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Menara Pelita today.
Imran also said that YSD seeks to continue partnering with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) by helping to fund them and contribute to Sarawak’s communities.
“After that, they can stand on their own and continue with their next projects. Sarawak is indeed a State with great potential.
“We are confident that the community here will respond very well,” he said.
According to a press release, since 2011, YSD’s engagement in Sarawak across 20 projects, including 16 that are currently ongoing, has seen investments exceeding RM60 million fuelling initiatives that are beneficial to the communities.
On the courtesy call, the press release said that it aimed to strengthen collaborative efforts for community welfare and biodiversity conservation in the region, highlighting shared commitment between both parties to advancing community welfare and biodiversity conservation efforts in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
