KUCHING, March 13: Yayasan Sarawak and SME Aerospace (SMEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate in advancing highly skilled human capital and expanding capabilities within the aerospace industry.
According to a media release today, this partnership will prioritise knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, talent development, technology transfer, and joint research and development initiatives focusing on high-tech aero engineering and aero structure manufacturing.
Yayasan Sarawak director Mersal Abang Rosli underscored that this endeavour aligns with Sarawak’s commitment to fostering quality education and human capital development to propel Sarawak towards a higher income society by creating high-value job opportunities and fostering opportunities for local entrepreneurs to support both upstream and downstream ecosystems within the aerospace sector.
“We are excited to collaborate with SME Aerospace to develop a highly skilled human capital workforce that meets both local and international demands within the aerospace business community sector.
“This partnership will not only benefit our organisation but will also contribute to the overall development and vision of the aerospace industry in Sarawak as a whole,” he said in the statement.
SME Aerospace director Datuk Suffian Ahmad highlighted the potential for mutual learning and value creation through this collaboration.
“We envisage great potential in this collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak to leverage each other’s strengths and expertise. Together, we can achieve significant advancements in high-value, high-tech aerospace technology and services in the region and globally,” he said.
The signing of the MOU signifies the commencement of a promising partnership between Yayasan Sarawak, a world-class entity dedicated to developing quality human capital in the State, and SME Aerospace, a leading provider of aerospace engineering manufacturing, with both entities dedicated to working towards common goals and objectives.
Aligned with Sarawak’s vision to become a developed state by 2030 under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS), which prioritises economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and an inclusive society, the parties are optimistic this collaboration will bolster the industrialisation of the aerospace manufacturing sector.
It will also facilitate the execution of related projects by leveraging their respective strengths and advantages, including expertise, manpower, information, and support.
Among other spin-off benefits, this partnership will harmonise with Sarawak’s strategies and catalyse the growth of Sarawak’s aviation ecosystem, enticing other industry players across the value chain to establish operations in Sarawak.
Furthermore, it is in alignment with the strategy to promote Sarawak’s green economy by utilising hydrogen and microalgae as sustainable aviation fuel. — DayakDaily
