KUCHING, May 19: In conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration, Yayasan Petronas and Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) recently contributed essential food supplies to approximately 500 underprivileged families in Betong.
According to a press release issued today, the contribution was made in collaboration with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) as part of its signature Sentuhan Kasih Festive programme.
Each recipient received essential food items including rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, glutinous rice, salt, milo, and local biscuits.
“I am grateful to Petronas for this aid. However, I will not be able to celebrate Gawai as much as other people this year because I just lost my mother in March 2022.
“Gawai will not be the same without her,” said Minah @ Bejau Broke, 69, of Rh Kedu Lempaong, Betong.
Minah is a single woman living with her younger sister, Mendung Broke, who works as a teacher at SK Bangat/Issu, and she has had chronic kidney disease for over a year, necessitating dialysis treatment every three months, as per the press release.
Additionally, another recipient, Manggau Berundang, 78, of Rh Mandau Lempaong, thanked Yayasan Petronas and MLNG for easing his burden in preparing for the Gawai festive celebration.
“I’ve been relying on my relatives to provide food on my table. I am unemployed and have no home.
“So, I’ve been living with my sister and her family all this while. With this aid, at least it helps to supplement my daily needs,” he said.
The Sentuhan Kasih Festive programme is an annual programme organised by Yayasan Petronas, and each year, in conjunction with major Malaysian celebrations, they extend necessities aimed at improving the well-being of the communities.
The programme’s goal is to create a memorable celebration for the less fortunate during the festive season in order to instil joy, love, and care.
Meanwhile, Petronas Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali stated that the company hopes that their contributions will bring joy to the recipients and ease their burdens as they prepare for the upcoming Gawai celebration.
Yayasan Petronas also provided essential food supplies to approximately 150 Matu residents in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations in April 2022. — DayakDaily
