KUCHING, May 29: Yayasan Petronas brings cheers to 300 underprivileged families in Kapit in conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak festival.

Petronas Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali in a press statement said during the Gawai Dayak festival, celebrants usually serve roasted glutinous rice in bamboo (known as “ngelulun pulut” in Iban), chicken cooked in bamboo (“manok pansoh”) and other customary dishes to their guests.

“With this in mind, Yayasan Petronas, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Petronas, is contributing food essentials such as glutinous rice, white rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, eggs, flour, condensed milk, sardines, cream crackers and festive cookies to some 300 underprivileged families here (Kapit) in conjunction with the upcoming festival,” he said.

Mantali noted in Sarawak, the celebration of festivals is made much more meaningful through the sharing of traditional delicacies with families and friends.

“In efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 during this period, the Foundation is also distributing face masks and hygiene kits to these families. We hope our contribution will help the beneficiaries to celebrate the Gawai Dayak festival in a meaningful way,” he added.

The contribution was made  under its signature “Sentuhan Kasih” Festive programme in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department (JKM). — DayakDaily
