SERIAN, Sept 5: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) has completed its Advancing Racial Cohesion and Harmony (ARCH) Unity Lab here today.
YPS, in a statement, reported that Serian Resident Selamat Jati Yanjah commended the Lab and hoped that YPS would continue to play a role in fostering Sarawak unity and conduct more activities related to not only culture and traditions but also religion, as religion is an important factor in fostering unity.
“The role of religion as a unifying factor is very strong and can go beyond if we Sarawakians can work together to enhance our unity and harmony,” he said when officiating at the Lab.
He also welcomed Sri Aman’s community leaders, government officers, and youth to the workshop, saying that both Serian and Sri Aman participants should contribute more ideas and opinions that could help to strengthen the society’s relationship and environment for the benefit of future generations.
The workshop was attended by government officials, local community leaders, youth association representatives, non-governmental organisation (NGO) members, and members of the general public from Serian and Sri Aman.
Previously, workshops were held in Limbang, Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Sibu, Kapit, Kota Samarahan, Bau, Betong, and Sarikei in order to reach out to more Sarawakians and gather feedback on how to achieve greater Sarawak unity. To date, nearly 250 participants joined the Lab.
ARCH is a project by YPS that aims to understand and evaluate how Sarawakians perceive unity and race relation among various ethnic groups and national integration, as well as frame it from a broader tier of the national level from a local perspective.
The concept was developed when the National Unity Blueprint 2021-2030 was announced to achieve its set objectives of understanding the concept of unity in Malaysia, creating a clear vision and aspirations of unity to be achieved in the next 10 years, and outlining strategic shifts and comprehensive targeted initiatives to realise the desired aspirations of unity. — DayakDaily
