KUCHING, Dec 2: Former Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and SEA Games athletes are among the 2,500 participants from 29 countries taking part in the 21st Asia Masters Athletics Championships here.

When welcoming all the participants at the launch today, Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg said the sports championship is a good platform for all athletes to come together to interact and strengthen the solidarity amongst themselves.

“As the host, the Sarawak government has ensured all the venues, facilities, implements, infrastructure and info-structure meet the requirements of Asia Masters Athletics and World Master Athletics.

“The championship is also recognised as the biggest athletic competition conducted in terms of participants, events, prizes and the sheer magnitude of meeting the needs and expectations of participants,” he said.

He also acknowledged the oldest participant, a 103-years-old woman from India.

“It is not easy to participate in such an event at this age. So seeing and witnessing these athletes with full enthusiasm really gives us great inspiration to lead a healthy lifestyle,” he added. — DayakDaily
