KAPIT, June 27: Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has invited the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak and all relevant agencies to collaborate with the Ministry of Works on a pilot project adopting modern technologies—Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital twinning—starting with an initiative in Kapit.
Speaking at the Ngiling Tikai Gawai Dayak 2025 celebration hosted by JKR Kapit Division, Nanta stressed the importance of embracing such technologies, especially in large-scale infrastructure projects like the Pan Borneo Highway and rural road networks.
“These technologies are no longer optional. They are a necessity to ensure quality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness in project execution,” he said in a post shared on his social media on Thursday (June 26).
Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, also emphasised that strong cooperation among all stakeholders—including JKR, local authorities, contractors and communities—is crucial to ensure smooth project delivery without delays and swift resolution of technical challenges.
“I urge all parties to work closely with one another to avoid project delays and resolve issues promptly,” he said.
Nanta assured the people of Kapit and Sarawak that the Ministry of Works is committed to continuing efforts to expand and enhance both federal and state road networks across the region.
“We will also ensure that maintenance is carried out efficiently and funds are managed transparently and with high impact, for the long-term benefit of rural communities,” he added.
On the cultural significance of the celebration, Nanta expressed hope that such events would continue in the future as they represent the values of gratitude, unity and shared prosperity.
The Ngiling Tikai Gawai Dayak 2025 event, held for the first time by the JKR Kapit Division, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
In his speech, Uggah urged JKR Kapit Division to adopt a more systematic and progressive approach to project implementation, in line with the evolving technological landscape.
“Leverage technology to speed up on-site progress, monitor actual costs, and identify potential risks early. This is the new standard of work—we must move in step with the pace of change,” he stressed in a statement posted on JKR Sarawak social media.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law and Native Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Sarawak JKR director Cassidy Morris. — DayakDaily
