KUCHING, July 23: Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has ordered a comprehensive review into delayed and “sick” projects following growing public concerns over stalled infrastructure developments.
Nanta said the matter was among the key issues discussed during the Ministry of Works (KKR) Post-Cabinet Meeting he chaired today, which also reviewed findings and post-mortem reports from his recent working visits to Kelantan and Sabah.
He said he had personally taken time to read comments and feedback from members of the public on social media regarding delayed projects, adding that concerns raised by the rakyat could not be ignored.
“Many have raised concerns about projects that are late in being completed. These voices cannot be taken lightly,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Following the concerns, Nanta said he had directed the preparation of a comprehensive report to identify the actual causes behind recurring delays affecting several projects in the states involved.
The report, he said, must include the status of the affected projects, contributing factors behind the delays, as well as immediate solutions that could be implemented.
“For me, every delayed project affects the lives of the people who are waiting for the facilities to be used,” he said.
Nanta stressed that the ministry would continue strengthening monitoring efforts, improving accountability and ensuring every issue raised by the public would be translated into tangible action.
The Works Ministry and its agencies are responsible for overseeing various public infrastructure projects nationwide, including road and related development works. — DayakDaily
