KUCHING, Jan 24: A workplace conflict fueled by rumours and jealousy between two colleagues has landed them both in court after a violent confrontation.

The office tensions between the two escalated into violence when one of them, an exemplary employee, lost his patience and punched a colleague who had allegedly been spreading gossip and tarnishing his reputation in front of others.

The two colleagues, aged 33 and 31, appeared before the Magistrate’s Court today and were ordered to enter into a six-month peace bond to prevent further disputes.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan issued the order under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Both men acknowledged the charges read to them and agreed to comply with the court’s directive.

According to the facts presented, the altercation occurred on Jan 17 at around 10.30am in the Podium Kuching area. One colleague punched another in the face and kicked him multiple times in the stomach, leaving him with a cut on his forehead and pain in his legs.

A police report was filed, and investigations revealed that the attack stemmed from frustrations over false allegations which were likely fueled by jealousy over the other’s success in the workplace.

Witness testimonies supported the claim that one of them had a history of speaking negatively about colleagues. This pattern of behavior contributed to the build-up of hostility that culminated in the physical altercation.

To prevent similar incidents, the magistrate ordered both men to enter into a peace bond with a surety of RM500, without deposit, for six months.

The court emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony in the workplace and warned both parties to uphold their professional responsibilities moving forward. – DayakDaily
