Workplace clusters detected in Sibu, Selangau with 30 Covid-19 positive cases

KUCHING, Aug 18: Two workplace clusters dubbed the Tanjung Kibong 2 Cluster and Dijih Cluster were detected in Sibu and Selangau, respectively, with 30 confirmed Covid-19 cases so far today.

According to the reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), both clusters erupted from the workers’ quarters, one of a shipping company at Lorong Tanjung Kibong 2 in Sibu and another from an oil palm plantation in Dijih, Selangau.


In the Tanjung Kibong 2 Cluster, a total of 60 individuals were screened where 17 tested positive, 30 tested negative and another 13 samples are currently awaiting their laboratory test results.

As for the Dijih Cluster in Selangau, 33 underwent swab tests where 13 tested positive, 20 tested negative while five more results are unknown for now.

SDMC added that all patients were admitted to the Sibu hospital and Low-risk Treatment and Quarantine Centres (PKRCs).

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded nine other new clusters with five in Serian and four in Kuching.

Those in Serian were the Tanah Mawang Cluster, Semada Cluster, Kampung Sungai Linsat Cluster, Batu 35 Kuching-Serian Cluster and Ensebang Plaie Cluster with 54, 55, 65, 36 and 34 positive cases respectively.

In Kuching, there were the Kampung Muara Tebas 2 Cluster with 43 cases, Jalan DBKU Cluster with 15, Jalan Tenaga Cluster with 13, and Central Park Batu Tiga Cluster with 12 cases.

With that, there are now a total of 119 active clusters across the State as of today. — DayakDaily
