Workers at Sungai Klad plantation prevent surau fire from spreading

MIRI, July 21: A potential disaster was averted yesterday when a fire broke out in a surau at the Sungai Klad plantation.

Thanks to the swift and decisive actions of the plantation workers, the fire was brought under control before it could cause extensive damage.

The fire, which started in the late afternoon, prompted an immediate response from the Lopeng Fire Station.

Firefighters received the emergency alert at 4.05pm and rushed to the scene.

However, by the time they arrived, the fire, which had already consumed approximately 80 per cent of the surau’s structure, had been successfully extinguished by the quick-thinking workers.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s operation centre, the workers utilised 53 fire extinguishers to combat the blaze.

Their rapid and coordinated response prevented the fire from spreading further and potentially endangering nearby buildings and residents.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
