KUCHING, Feb 13: A late-night emergency response was triggered at a construction site in Tabuan Jaya here after a misunderstanding between a worker and the site management led to fears that the man was unconscious atop a crane.

Based on information received, the construction site manager stated that the victim was supposed to descend from the crane at 5pm. After attempts to contact the victim went unanswered, they contacted Bomba for assistance.

“Initial information indicated that one male victim was feared unconscious on a construction crane approximately 54 metres high. Personnel conducted a size-up at the location and prepared rescue equipment, as conditions at the scene involved light rain and the crane ladder was narrow and slippery,” said the report.

The victim, 41-year-old Walsh Jawi, was reported to be safe.

“There was a miscommunication between the victim and the site manager. According to the victim, he had intended to remain on the crane overnight until the following morning.

“However, he did not inform the site manager and did not respond to phone calls or the walkie-talkie provided. No rescue or lowering operation was carried out,” said the report. — DayakDaily
