IGAN, July 27: Construction work on two “sick” projects in Igan here, namely the access road to Pantai Igan and the road from Igan Junction to Sungai Ilas, have resumed.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Dato Dr Juanda Jaya disclosed that the construction of the access road to Pantai Igan is scheduled to be fully completed before Aug 31.

As for the road from Igan junction to Sungai Ilas stretching 11km, it is expected to be completed within six months.

“I have seen the (construction) plan that has been proposed by the contractor and JKR (Public Works Department).

“We are confident that the new plan will ensure that the People’s Project approved by Premier of Sarawak (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) can be completed according to schedule,” he said during a visit to the project sites on Monday (July 25).

Earlier on, the Jemoreng assemblyman was briefed on the progress of the projects by the contractor.

Later, he also inspected the proposed project to upgrade the Kampung Sekerang Igan Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) resource centre, and several residential houses to be included in the Sarawak government’s home improvement project.

On the same day, Dr Juanda also officiated at the start of RHB Bank Mobile ATM and CDM operation at Medan Selera Igan.

In a brief speech, he thanked RHB for the initiative as the mobile banking facilities will definitely ease access to financial services such as withdrawals, deposits and money transfers as well as bill payments by the local community and businesses.

Dr Juanda also encouraged locals to open a bank account with RHB so that they can benefit from all the financial facilities and services offered.

The mobile bank will be stationed at Oya Square on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the mornings and move to Medan Selera Igan in the afternoons. As for Tuesday and Thursday, the mobile bank will be stationed in Balingian. — DayakDaily
