SRI AMAN, Nov 5: Wong Pupo Waterfall at Batu Lintang here now has good Internet connection, which will elevate its potential to become the next rural tourism destination in Sarawak.

This followed the launching of Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) Batu Lintang, which was officiated by Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi at Batu Lintang yesterday (Nov 4).

In a statement, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) said the MySRBN would allow active participation in Sarawak’s digital economy journey by enabling e-commerce, rural tourism, online learning, and many more.

“Sarawak is well known for many interesting places for rural tourism, such as Wong Pupo Waterfall, a hidden gem in the Batu Lintang that needs the world’s attention.

“With the availability of the Internet, Wong Pupo has bright potential in attracting digital nomads from around the world and thus, improving the economic activities in the area.

“With good connectivity, digital nomads can now choose Batu Lintang as one of their preferred destinations whilst relishing mother nature; they can also enjoy seamless communication,” it said.

Meanwhile, SDEC chief executive officer Sudarnoto Osman said through MySRBN he hoped that the local community would make full use of the facility provided by the Sarawak government and participate actively in our digital economy and improve their livelihoods.

MySRBN is an initiative under the component of Sarawak Linking, Urban, Rural and Nation (Saluran) aiming to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural by improving 4G coverage in rural areas by enabling consumers to use data services and make calls seamlessly.

To date, it has served 158 places and connected 15,457 homes throughout Sarawak, with an additional 36 locations expected to receive the service by the end of this year.

In Sri Aman, MySRBN service is available in 10 sites: Kampung Lingga, Melugu, Selepong Jinggau, Lachau Kara Road, Bukit Temudok, San Kemantan, Merindun, Engkelili, Kampung Sebangki, and Batang Ai.

MySRBN uses Fixed Wireless Broadband (FWB) technology, allowing quick implementation of the technology by utilising existing infrastructure and providing unlimited access to rural and suburban populations throughout Sarawak, as well as Internet speeds up to 30 Mbps.

Among those present at the launching ceremony were Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Anak Hollis and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Sarawak director Adiman Ajem. — DayakDaily
