Wong inspects roads on first day as SRDC deputy chairman

KUCHING, Aug 3: The road to Ulu Sungai Menyan has been raised by two feet and tar-sealed to prevent flash flood.

On his first day at his job as deputy chairman of Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) today, Wong Ching Yong inspected the roads in Sungai Ulu Menyan and Ulu Sengan.

The project of raising the road in Ulu Sungai Menyan, according to Wong, cost RM300,000.

“It is hoped that the longhouse folks in that area and the students of SK Sg Menyan do not have to face the flash flood after a downpour again,” said Wong in a press statement today.

On his visit to Ulu Sengan, he agreed with the longhouse folks of Ulu Sengan that the 1km road which is in a bad state needed to be upgraded.

“The people of the longhouses in Ulu Sengan requested SRDC to urgently repair a stretch of 1km road which has big pot holes and driving during rainy days and at night is very dangerous,” he said.

He said two weeks ago, Tuai Rumah Setia Api represented the longhouses in Ulu Sengan to voice out the request to him.
