MIRI, June 11: A 31-year-old woman allegedly leapt to her death from a balcony on the 7th floor of a hotel-apartment building in Jalan Airport here during a drug bust by police on Sunday night.
City police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, in confirming the incident, said a team from the narcotics division raided the apartment unit at about 8.55pm following a public tip-off.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the woman and a 34 year-old man inside the unit.
Lim said while his men were searching for possible illegal substances in the unit, the woman suddenly ran towards the balcony and jumped off.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her remains have been sent to Miri Hospital morgue for a post mortem.
Lim said the preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had been arrested before under Section 414 of the Penal Code for assisting in concealing stolen property, and an arrest warrant was issued against her for failing to appear in court.
Meanwhile, in the apartment unit, police found 1.15gm of substances believed to be Methamphetamine inside a plastic packet and arrested the 34-year-old man under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug possession. — DayakDaily
