KUCHING, July 16: A local woman was sentenced to three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for breaking into and stealing items from a house in Kampung Siol Kandis last May.
Zalikha Suria, 34, pleaded guilty to three charges read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
According to the first and second charges, she, along with an 18-year-old male accomplice, was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, for disposing of stolen property. The stolen items included two iron gates and two lamps belonging to a 48-year-old man.
For the third charge, Zalikha and her accomplice were charged under Section 447 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, for trespassing on the complainant’s property in Kampung Siol Kandis at around 8pm on May 20.
Magistrate Zubaidah sentenced Zalikha to three months in prison for each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently starting today.
Meanwhile, her accomplice was granted bail at RM1,000 with a local surety, pending a social report from the Social Welfare Department due on Aug 19.
According to the case facts, the complainant discovered that his house had been broken into and several items were missing, including a front door, a door grill, a carport roof, a back kitchen door, two bathroom doors, eight window frames, two iron gates, two spendex gates, three lamps, a fuse box, and several ceiling structures. The estimated loss was around RM3,000.
On July 10, police re-arrested both suspects after they were apprehended by the public for allegedly stealing items from the complainant’s house. Both suspects confessed to the theft and led authorities to the location where the stolen items were sold.
The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the defendants were not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
