SIBU, July 21: A civil servant has been conned of RM29,800 in a parcel scam.
Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 20-something victim had lodged a police report claiming that she had been deceived by a fraud syndicate.
“The woman had on July 20 received a call from a stranger who introduced himself as being from a courier company. She was told that there was a parcel under her name with an identity card and four bank cards in it,” he said.
The suspect also told her that the delivery date for the parcel had already passed.
“The line was then connected to a ‘police officer’ who asked the victim to reveal her banking details for investigation purposes. As she was scared, she did as instructed,” said ACP Zulkipli.
She was shocked to receive an SMS which informed her that RM29,800 had been transferred to an unknown account number.
The victim felt that she had been cheated and filed a police report.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
