Woman fined RM3k, jailed 1 year for cheating

SIBU, March 1: A woman has been sentenced to a jail term of one year and fined RM3,000 in default six months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court today for cheating.

The accused, Banissa William, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

According to the facts of the case, the accused together with a woman’s companion had on March 24 last year went to a licensed money lender to apply for a personal loan.


She had submitted a payslip of a handphone shop in Medan Mall as she claimed she was working there.

The complainant of the case who is the person-in-charge of the money lending company then approved the loan of RM3,600 to the accused’s companion.

However the complainant after checking with the phone shop, was told that the accused was not their employee.

He then lodged a police report which led to the arrest of the accused few days later. — DayakDaily
