KUCHING, July 3: The Sessions Court here fined a woman RM20,000 for abusing her 10-year-old daughter by stabbing her with broken glass and hitting her with a wooden stick.
The woman, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge before Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.
The judge sentenced the accused to a fine of RM20,000 or in default, 12 months’ imprisonment. Additionally, she was ordered to observe a bond of good behavior for two years, post RM10,000 bail, provide one local surety, and serve a Compulsory Attendance Order for 60 hours aggregate within six months.
The accused was charged with abusing her daughter at a flat in Siburan at about 8pm on May 19, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 20 years, or both, upon conviction.
Her daughter was badly injured by the abuse.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
