Woman claims trial to dumping dead newborn in Bandar Baru Semariang

KUCHING, Sept 8: A 20-year-old mother claimed trial to disposing her newborn daughter in a drain at Bandar Baru Semariang.

Court Registrar Aida Montong who stood in for Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar set September 19 for further mention of the case.


The accused was allowed to be released on bail of RM3,000 and with one local surety.

She was accused of disposing of the dead body of her newborn baby girl by throwing it into a drain at Bandar Baru Semariang, between 7pm to 12 am on January 18.

She was charged under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine, or with both.

According to Kuching Police district chief ASP Awang Din Awang Gani’s statement on January 19, the medical officer at Sarawak General Hospital examined the accused whom they believed had just given birth.

After interrogation by the police, the accused led the police to the scene where the baby was found in the drain.
