BETONG, July 30: The search for a missing 70-year-old woman from Rh Karin, Tabut, Skrang, has been suspended after eight days following the absence of new leads.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement today disclosed the family members have consented for the search to be discontinued as there is no fresh signs of the victim, Linjong Edward.
Search and Rescue (SAR) operations comprising firefighters, a K9 unit, police, Civil Defence Force and villagers found no trace of Linjong despite an intensive search over the last eight days.
Linjong last seen leaving her longhouse on July 22 at about 9am.
It was understood that she had gone to an oil palm plantation at Memaloi Batu 8 with a boat to cross over to the other side of the river.
By evening, her family members realised she had not return home.
Upon checking, they found her boat is still tied to a tree on the opposite side of the river.
After failing to locate her, family members contacted the authorities for assistance.
SAR operations led by Betong fire chief Vincent Baling Yabi was immediately launched.
“As the operations reached the end of its eighth day, the mission was called off this evening after authorities met with the family who agreed to the decision.
“If there are new leads, the search will resume again,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
