Wireman gets jail for hurting alleged rape victim

KUCHING, June 21: The Sessions Court here sentenced a wireman to 5 years and 5 months behind bars for recently causing hurt with a flip knife on an underage girl that he had allegedly raped in 2017.

Lim Chin Siang, 39, from Taman Desa Wira was slapped with two charges, and he pleaded guilty to both of them.


Sessions Court Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff sentenced him to 5 years’ jail for the first charge and an imprisonment term of 5 months for the second charge.

He ordered the imprisonment terms to run concurrently.

For the first charge, Lim was found to have illegal possession of a flip knife in front of a house in Taman Desa Wira at about 6.30am last Tuesday (June 18). He was charged under Sub-section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substance and Offences Weapons Act 1958, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than 5 years and not more than 10 years and liable to whipping.

For the second charge, he was found to have slashed a 17-year-old girl on her left upper posterior trunk in front of a house in Taman Desa Wira at about 6.30am on the same day.

He was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 10 years or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the accused had allegedly raped the same girl in Betong in 2017, and the case is still on trial.

DPP Nor Azhari Yusof prosecuted, while the accused was not represented. — DayakDaily
