Indonesian gets 18 years’ jail, 2 strokes of rotan for raping minor

KUCHING, June 21: An Indonesian man was today sentenced to 18 years’ jail and 2 strokes of the rotan after he pleaded guilty to two charges of raping an underage girl in Batu Kawa, here.

Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga sentenced Roni Sanjaya to 9 years’ jail with one stroke of the rotan for each charge. But he ordered the jail terms to run concurrently, meaning the accused only need to serve 9 years of jail time.


Roni pleaded guilty to raping the underage girl in his rented room in Batu Kawa between May and December 2018 and between May and June this year.

He was charged under Section 376(1) of Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 20 years and liable to whipping upon conviction.

DPP Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
