KUCHING, Dec 15: If he could fix dilapidated houses with minimum councillor fundings, imagine how much more he could provide for Kota Sentosa if elected as the people’s representative.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N12 Kota Sentosa Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said his drive to continue helping the people despite limitations in allocations and opportunities is all part of his will to serve.

“I think it’s about having the will to serve. If you have the will, nothing can stop you. You can find the ‘lubang’ (ways) to actually make things work.

“It’s about finding the solutions rather than complaining about the problems,” he said.

As a councillor for 7th Mile under the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Yap had not restricted himself to only 7th Mile but the entire Kota Sentosa constituency.

The areas needing attention that he constantly keeps tabs on are the Stampin Resettlement Scheme area, 7th Mile, Durian Burung area, and pockets of areas in Hui Sing.

“Even though I’m not a ‘wakil rakyat’ (elected representative), I’m just a normal councillor in MPP, I have done my best to assist even some of the really hardcore poor.

“How do I do it? I get donations from the people. I use the little bit of council ‘projek rakyat’ funding of RM3,000 to do whatever I can.”

Yap, who is also Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch chairman, said he and his team recently managed to rebuild three houses that are on the verge of collapsing at Jalan Sungai Tapang.

On top of what he could achieve now, he urged voters of Kota Sentosa to elevate him to a bigger platform where he could bring more benefit to the people. — DayakDaily
