KUCHING, Oct 21: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has yet to decide when Sarawak’s next State election will be held, despite the narrowing window for the polls.

“The window is narrow; it expires February 2027,” he said during his speech at the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Backbenchers Night at a hotel here tonight.

The Premier also referred to suggestions by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information chief Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on possible election dates, including in December, but said he was unsure whether the predictions would prove accurate.

Abdul Karim had previously identified Dec 5, 12 and 19 as possible polling dates, citing the narrowing window for the election.

The current Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) is due to complete its five-year term in February 2027. Under the Federal Constitution, a State election must be held within 60 days of the Assembly’s dissolution.
