SIBU, Oct 19: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee has expressed his readiness to contest in the Sibu seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) if selected to be the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate.
He said this in response to a question from a reporter at a press conference after chairing a PBB Nangka branch meeting on Monday (Oct 17) night.
The Nangka assemblyman said he will fight regardless of he being a ‘general’ or a ‘soldier’ in GE15 if he is nominated to stand.
“I am a party man. If you are asked to fight and if you don’t, that would be a shame. Whatever it is, I will be the army and you (party) be the general. I will fight.
“Therefore the most important thing is that we choose a candidate who can deliver the seat and development of Sibu,” said Dr Annuar who is also the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development I.
So far only Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) has announced its GE15 candidate for Sibu which is its president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.
Democratic Action Party (DAP) will only announce its candidate on Oct 22.
Under GPS, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) has traditionally been allocated the Sibu seat to contest.
The three SUPP branches in the Sibu federal constituency namely Bawang Assan, Pelawan and Nangka have named three potential candidates which include Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh, lawyer Tony Hii, and businessman Daniel Sng.
DAP’s Oscar Ling Chai Yew has been the incumbent of the P212 Sibu seat for two terms. — DayakDaily
