KUCHING, June 26: Dato Richard Wee has been re-elected as the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions president for the term 2022-2025 today.

President of Kuching Foochow Association Dato Wong Tiong Hock was elected the federationā€™s deputy president.

The election was held during the federation’s annual general meeting at its headquarters here earlier today.

In his presidency speech, Wee said with the relaxation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), it is high time for the federation to resume work.

In promoting cultural heritage, he said it had been proposed to the Sarawak government to allow the federation to take over the management of the Chinese History Museum.

ā€œThis is so that the museum can be better taken care of. We have conducted preliminary discussions with relevant departments to establish a consensus,ā€ he said.

Wee also said the federation would restart the organisation of seminars to encourage the Chinese community to join the civil service.

ā€œWe hope to let the general public understand the conditions and benefits of becoming civil servants. We also hope to see more Chinese faces in Sarawakā€™s public service system,ā€ he added.
