MIRI, June 26: The Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (DUBS) Miri is urging the Sarawak government to consider building a convention centre in Miri.

DUBS Miri chairman Mohammad Hafidz Rohani proposed that the convention centre be developed on land owned by DUBS Miri.

“It’s a five-acre piece of land located at a very strategic location,” he said in a statement today.

He also expressed hopes that DUBS could be directly involved in the construction of the convention centre, should the project be approved.

“DUBS members comprising entrepreneurs from various fields including logistics, hospitality, restaurants and tourism and I, believe we will benefit indirectly from this construction,” he added.

On Saturday (June 25), the same suggestion was mentioned by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a press conference here.

Meanwhile, DUBS Miri deputy chairman Mzalina Ibrahim Seen said international exhibitions can be organised in the proposed convention centre to attract foreigners while they get to experience Sarawak’s uniqueness.

“These visitors will become unofficial ambassadors of Sarawak when they return to their respective countries,” she said. — Dayakdaily
