KUCHING, Sept 4: The wedding Bungey 2 Cluster in Betong has grown to 816 after adding 52 more new Covid-19 cases overnight.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the cluster currently has 397 active cases.
A total of 860 people have been swabbed, out of which only 44 have tested negative with no lab test results pending.
The cluster was declared on Aug 12 and involved residents of a village in Kampung Hilir Bungey in Debak, stemming from a wedding ceremony which took place on July 30 and 31.
The Bungey 2 Cluster is among the 11 active clusters in Sarawak that registered an increase in daily infections with a total of 157 cases contributing to today’s caseload of 2,723.
However, Bungey 2 was second in the list with the highest increase in cases today after Lubuk Bukut Cluster in Mukah which added 70 more cases to push the cluster’s total to 194.
Coincidentally, the workplace Lubuk Bukut Cluster which stemmed from workers and their family members residing at the workers’ quarters of a coal mining site was declared on the same day as Bungey 2.
The cluster currently has 132 active cases.
A total of 600 people have been swabbed, out of which 403 have tested negative and three are still waiting for lab test results.
The remaining nine clusters that saw an increase in cases are Long Urun Cluster in Belaga and Bandar Baru Mukah in Mukah (9 cases each); Nasang Tugong Cluster in Pakan (7 cases); Belinggai Ulu Niah Cluster and Maxbi Libai Cluster, both in Subis (3 cases each); while Lorong Cahaya Damai Cluster in Kuching, Sungai Menok Cluster in Beluru, Teluk Batu Cluster in Meradong and Sawit Gelasah Cluster in Subis has one case each. — DayakDaily
