MIRI, Sept 4: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau voiced concerns over the lack of better facilities to accommodate flood victim in Long Lama.

According to Dennis, a proper sheltering facilities should be build in Long Lama to house the victims in the event of incidents such as flood of fires.

“Evacuation center is crucial during disaster in order to keep the victims safe, and during that period, they need to have proper facility that cater for their needs as some of them are women and toddlers.

“This is the third time Long Lama were struck by the flood incident this year, and during my visit to the center, the victims were lying on the floor along the five-foot-way of the building without proper facilities,” he said after visiting the 59 flood victims from 11 families that are taking shelter at the Darulssalam Mosque PPS, today.

The victims were moved to the relief center since Sept 3, after their houses were flooded following continuous rainfall in the past few days.

Meanwhile, Dennis appealed to the State government to consider the building a sheltering facilities in Long Lama that can act as a shelter during natural disaster to the community.

He opined there should be no problem for the site venue, because we have identified a State land that is very much appropriates for the construction of the facility (shelter) as it located in a higher ground.

“The construction project cost to be around RM500,000 to RM800,000, and the shelter facilities will become a multi-purpose shelter building that can be utilise as a temporary accommodation center for those who come from the rural areas seeking medical treatment in Long Lama Health Clinic,” he added. – DayakDaily.
