KUCHING, March 28: Kuching Water Board (KWB) has deployed a water tank to the 8th Mile Hokkien Cemetery in preparation for the Qing Ming Festival.
Falling on April 4 this year, the Qing Ming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day, holds great importance in Chinese culture, serving as a time for families to honour their ancestors and departed loved ones.
Ahead of the festival, many families have begun visiting cemeteries to clean tombs, offer prayers, lay flowers, and burn incense and paper money.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the water tank was allocated following concerns raised on challenges faced in accessing fresh water at the cemetery during the Qing Ming Festival period.
“This proactive measure reflects KWB’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and their dedication to supporting the community.
“Respecting and embracing the traditions of all communities, this gesture not only facilitates the festival’s observance but also fosters unity and harmony within our society,” he said in a statement today.
Wee extended gratitude to KWB for their invaluable support and contribution to the Chinese community during this significant traditional event. — DayakDaily
