MIRI, Feb 21: The proposed laying of an 800mm water pipeline from Pujut Padang Kerbau to Senadin by Laku Management Sdn Bhd is expected to be completed by June this year.

Laku’s new chief executive officer Franklin Ucar said work on this RM14 million initiative, which covered Tudan, Desa Murni and Desa Indah, started sometime last year, and it represented a long-term solution to meet the demand for water in the targetted areas, especially during peak hours.

Speaking at a short press conference here today, Franklin said Miri Division had 69,100 water consumers currently.
“We have to be efficient in supplying water in terms of quantity and quality,” he told the press, before announcing that Laku’s new chairman is former Sibuti MP Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang.

Ahmad Lai’s and Franklin’s appointments both take effect from Feb 1.

On another project, which is being implemented by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in Bukit Selatan at Jalan Hills, Franklin said it involved the construction of a water reservoir.

This project is expected to wrap up by 2020.

Also present at the press conference were Miri mayor Adam Yii, Laku Miri area manager Ha Tung Ngie, Laku senior manager (Finance and ICT) Affendi Taher, Laku senior manager (Human Resource and Administration) Bong She Yee, Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol and representatives from other government agencies. — DayakDaily
