KUCHING, Jan 14: The water disruption in Sarikei, which affected about 4,000 households, was due to the delay of the Pan Borneo contractor in completing the connecting work for the new 500MM HDPE pipeline.
According to the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) in a statement today, the affected areas are Jalan KJD Meradong, Skim B, the entire Pakan area, Jalan Bulat from Sg. Rusa until Sg. Joh, Kesa Baron, Kesa, Jalan Onn Dian, Sg. Garan, Jalan Friendship, Jalan Cola, and Pakan Junction.
In addition to that, certain areas in Bintangor are expected to experience low water pressure, namely the Sg. Sian, Selidap, Bukit Papit and Leban areas.
According to JBALB, the department issued a notice for the new pipeline connection work, which was supposed to be completed on Thursday.
“However, the work could not be completed according to the set schedule, and JBALB Sarawak has urged the Pan Borneo contractor to complete the work immediately today to reduce the major impact of water supply disruption to consumers in the affected areas,” it said.
The department noted that JBALB Sarikei and the contractor are delivering water supply until the situation is resolved.
“We regret any inconvenience caused and greatly appreciate the patience of the consumers.
“All the latest development involving the matter will be updated to consumers through JBALB’s social media platforms,” the statement added.
