KUCHING, Aug 25: The Watchmoviesnot Film Festival (WMNFF) is coming to town to showcase six local short films in conjunction with the commencement of Seni Kita Weekend held at Community Social Support Centre (CSSC) here on Sept 16 and 17.
The Watchmoviesnot is a film education project founded in 2019 by a group of undergraduates from Sarawak who plan film festivals, write film reviews and publish publications to present a more comprehensive image of films to the local audience.
With the theme ‘Unleashing the Unlimited Mind’, the third edition of WMNFF kicked-off in Sibu until Sept 1 before embarking on a tour of three cities; from Hin Bus Depot, George Town, Penang on Sept 7; Moongrind Kingdom, Miri – Sept 10; and CSSC Kuching – Sept 16 and 17.
The sale of entry tickets is by walk-ins and ranges from RM10 per screening, RM25 for a day pass, and RM45 for a two-day pass.
WMNFF founder Chris Ling said Watchmoviesnot aims to curate film festivals to unite films, audiences, and filmmakers, sparking conversations that kindle endless possibilities from the big screen to everyday lives.
“We intend to share these remarkable films with a wider audience, to forge connections with new communities, and to ignite the flame of film culture in places that may not have experienced it before,” Ling reportedly said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the upcoming simultaneously-held Seni Kita Weekend is the third of four-themed arts festivals planned by HAUS KCH for this year under the theme “Subcultures”.
Its programme coordinator Christy Yang said the experience of partnering with like-minded communities and individuals who are aligned in their commitment to enhancing Malaysia’s creative arts industry is truly gratifying.
“Platforms such as WMNFF are designed to be accessed by all walks of life, a stark contrast to the highbrow pageantry of ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards,” she said.
‘Seni Kita Weekend: Subcultures’ is produced and organised by HAUS KCH, in collaboration with CSSC, Bring it on, Watchmoviesnot, T.Bagak, Jasmine Dadi, JayC Panganiban, HERO AVL, Ngirupp, Sarawak Drum Community, and AIESEC Kuching.
The event will be launched and open from 10am to 10pm on Saturday (Sept 16), and from 10am to 7pm on Sunday (Sept 17).
