KUCHING, Aug 20: The International Data Centre Authority (IDCA), headquartered in Washington, has expressed readiness to support Sarawak in developing a sustainable and resilient digital economy ecosystem.
IDCA head of Asean Md Shahriman M Sidek said the courtesy call on Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex today was aimed at introducing IDCA’s role as a global advisor on digital economy policies for governments and corporations.
“To ensure the digital economy flourishes, robust infrastructure is essential, including telecommunications towers, data centres and international connectivity through fibre optics and subsea cables.
“The Premier emphasised that Sarawak must not only establish digital hubs or data centres, but also ensure a complete international network,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report.
Md Shahriman noted that the Premier demonstrated a clear understanding of the importance of digital infrastructure.
“Therefore, IDCA stands ready to help evaluate and strengthen Sarawak’s development plans to ensure they are truly future-proof, especially in the area of data centres,” he added.
He noted that Sarawak is actively exploring the development of data centre hubs, with energy requirements and sustainability forming a key part of ongoing discussions.
Also present at the meeting were permanent secretary to the Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications Datu Jafri Lias, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng and IDCA special project director Johnson Yu Weng Lok. — DayakDaily
