KUCHING, Nov 16: A fire broke out at a warehouse at Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri on Saturday (Nov 15), which required overnight works to extinguish the flames.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the alert came in at 5.22pm with fire crews from Samalaju and Kidurong arriving at the scene six minutes later.
The warehouse, measuring about 150 by 250 feet and used to store silicon hydride and silica, was already 90 per cent engulfed when firefighters reached the site.
Operations Commander Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad said firefighters deployed two hose lines and five nozzles, drawing water from the factory’s pressurised hydrant system to contain the blaze.
“Crews also carried out cooling work on a woodchip warehouse located roughly 10 metres away to prevent the fire from spreading,” he said in a report.
The fire was brought under control at 8.30pm, but firefighters continued extinguishing work overnight until 7.45am today.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. — DayakDaily
