KUCHING, Sept 8: Those who wish to pursue a Master’s Degree in any university in the United Kingdom (UK) are urged to apply for Chevening Scholarships, which will be available starting Sept 12.
The Chevening Scholarship(s) fully funds a one-year master’s degree in any course at any UK university with no age limit.
The Chevening award includes (but is not limited to) the following: university tuition fees; a monthly stipend; travel costs to and from the UK; an arrival allowance; a homeward departure allowance; the cost of one visa application; and a travel grant to attend Chevening events in the UK.
Applications for the UK government’s international scholarships programme for the 2024/2025 session will open on Sept 12 and close on Nov 7. For more information, please visit the Chevening Scholarships website at Chevening.org/apply.
In light of this, the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur and the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) co-organised a Chevening Scholarships Information Session and Workshop at Sarawak Skills’ Group Headquarters in Tabuan Jaya, Kuching yesterday.
Among the participants were officials, counsellors and educators from the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD); Yayasan Sarawak; the Sarawak State Education Department and secondary schools; AUG Student Services; and the agencies under MEITD, namely Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS), CRAUN Research Sdn. Bhd., Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, SMD Semiconductor Sdn. Bhd. and Sarawak Research and Development Council.
According to Sarawak Skills deputy executive director of Corporate Services, Amy Francis Najur, Sarawak Skills has a proven track record in offering globally recognised programmes from the United Kingdom.
“Since 2001, one of our popular programmes is the Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. To date, close to 1,000 students have graduated from the programme with an excellent employability track record, mostly in the oil and gas sector.
“Sarawak Skills offered the Vocational Diploma in Electrical Power Generation Technology programme from 2018 to 2021 (funded by the Malaysian Government during this period). Accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), 198 students graduated from this programme.
“The Digital English Solution for TVET Students Programme (PEARSON Digital English) started in October 2021 with the first batch of 127 participants. The programme is funded by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Sarawak,” she said during the workshop. — DayakDaily
