Voting process runs smoothly in Sibu, Lanang as candidates make their way to polling centres

SIBU, Nov 19: All seven candidates for the Sibu and Lanang parliamentary seats have cast their vote before 9am at their respective polling centres.

The earliest among them was incumbent for Lanang, Alice Lau (PH-DAP) who arrived at the Polling centre at SMK Methodist at 7.20am to cast her vote.

Accompanying her was her father Dato Lau Cheng Kiong, grandmother and siblings.


About 40 minutes later, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Sibu seat, Clarence Ting, his mother, Lilian Chian, 89, and two sons arrived at the same place to exercise their right to vote.

The voting centre is also where Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate for Lanang, Priscilla Lau voted.

Lau arrived at the centre with her mother, husband and two sons at 8.24am.

PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh voted at SJK Chung Hua with his wife Datin Sri Leong Poh Lin.

Ting and Soon Koh’s opponent incumbent Oscar Ling voted at SMK Deshon.

Over to Lanang, GPS candidate Wong Ching Yong showed up at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Perbandaran No.2 polling station, Jalan Ubah at 8.05am with his wife Mary Ling and fellow party members.

They both finished casting their votes at 8.13 am.

Over 200,000 people in Sibu are eligible to fulfill their respective responsibilities as voters in the 15th General Election (GE15) this time around.

The number of eligible voters for P212 Sibu is 105,875 and P211 Lanang 87,356 voters.

The voting process started as early as 7.30am and will end at 5.30pm.

The Sibu Islamic Complex Hall will be the Vote Tallying Center for the Sibu while Lanang will use SMK Methodist.

The Sibu seat is a three-cornered fight between incumbent Oscar Ling (DAP), Clarence Ting (GPS) and Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

Lanang meanwhile is a four-cornered fight between Alice, Priscilla, Wong and Independent candidate Datuk Wong Tiing Kiong. — DayakDaily
