KUCHING, Dec 23: Former Batu Lintang assemblyman Voon Lee Shan did not confirm nor deny rumours that he has joined Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).

Rumours are swirling that Voon, who was Batu Lintang assemblyman under the Democratic Action Party (DAP) banner from 2006 to 2011, has joined PBK and holds the position of deputy president.

When contacted today, he politely laughed when asked if there was any truth to what the grapevine was spewing.

Voon, who is a lawyer, has been lying low ever since he was suspended by DAP and was not fielded in the 2011 state polls, but he has been relatively active in Sarawak rights causes lately.

He has also issued many press statements from legal and historical viewpoints of Sarawak’s rights in recent months.

PBK, which was registered in 2013, is headed by Yu Chin Liik. In the May 9 general election this year, the party fielded its first ever candidate — Wong Chin King — in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency, but he lost his deposit when he secured only 392 votes.

But come the next state election, which is due in 2021, Yu recently said his party would go out in full force to contest as the time was ripe for a ‘third force’ to rise. Yu claimed that Sarawakians were disappointed with both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). — DayakDaily.
