KUCHING, Apr 29: Malaysia’s tourism promotion drive has been extended until Dec 31, 2027 to allow more time for international travellers to visit the country, Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing says.

According to a Facebook post, the extension of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign takes into account current global developments and is aimed at sustaining momentum in attracting foreign visitors beyond 2026.

Tiong made the announcement during a tourism promotion mission in Jakarta, where he joined a Malaysian delegation at a dinner event attended by industry players from Indonesia.

“The mission serves to strengthen strategic cooperation with Indonesian tourism stakeholders, leveraging the close cultural, linguistic and historical ties between the two countries to boost bilateral tourism flows,” he said.

The delegation comprised 50 Malaysian organisations, including state tourism boards, travel agencies, hospitals, airlines, hotels, Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) agents, as well as operators of various tourism products and attractions, reflecting a coordinated effort to expand partnerships in the Indonesian market.

During the visit, he also invited Indonesian partners to attend the Malaysia Food and Cultural Promotion programme held from April 26 to May 2 at Le Méridien Jakarta, as part of broader promotional efforts.

He further encouraged visitors to experience upcoming events in Kuala Lumpur, including Labour Day celebrations and the Water Musical Festival at Jalan Bukit Bintang, which are expected to enhance the country’s tourism appeal.

The campaign extension is expected to provide a longer runway for Malaysia to boost tourist arrivals and deepen regional collaboration, particularly with neighbouring Indonesia. — DayakDaily
