MIRI, March 8: A short video clip of a saltwater crocodile trapped in a fishing net and being brutalised by several men has gone viral in the social media early this morning.

The actual location where the gruesome two-minute 31-second video was taken is unknown but some people alleged it took place in Kuala Batu 1 beach in Kuala Baram.

Irrespective of where the incident happened, Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) Miri Branch chairman Musa Musbah said it was about time for the relevant authority to take stern action against the culprits, one of whom was seen using a hammer to hit the reptile’s head multiple times. Another man used a wooded stick to beat up the hapless creature.

Several individuals who stood by the side to watch were filmed laughing for no apparent reason.

Update:

When contacted, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) confirmed the incident took place at Kuala Batu 1, Sribima, in Lutong during low tide at 6.30am today. — DayakDaily
