The Wiggle Waggle Walk (WWW) event was organised by the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) today in conjunction with the ongoing Asia for Animals (AfA) Sarawak Conference 2023 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here from Oct 11 to 14.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the Council and SSPCA are in the process of studying a proposal to offer a long-term subsidised neutering programme for pet dogs as a humane and internationally accepted method to address the issue of abandoned and stray animals as well as reduce the incidences of rabies when coupled with vaccinations.
“We have had joint neutering campaigns, which we hope to have again soon, and we also previously worked with SSPCA to conduct a survey on the stray dogs in our areas.
“A more detailed survey will have to be conducted again soon to ascertain the number of pets vaccinated against rabies,” he said at the event.
Meanwhile, Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) president Datin Dona Drury Wee said the WWW event aimed to educate dog owners on the practice of scooping their pets’ poop to convince the local councils to allow dog-walking activity in public parks.
The event also saw the interfaith blessing of pet dogs organised in conjunction with the World Animal Day celebration.
Also present was the Asia for Animals (AfA) Sarawak Conference 2023 organising chairperson Gracie Geikie.
