The 67-year-old patient was diagnosed with active bleeding and required immediate treatment by an interventional radiologist, a specialist only available at SGH, according to a letter from Miri Hospital to Sarawak Bomba Director Jamri Masran.

Due to the severity of the patient’s condition, Miri Hospital determined that rapid transport was necessary for further care.

The letter stated, “His current condition is alert and stable, requiring only minimal oxygen support at 3 litres per minute (3L/min) through a nasal prong. He can still obey commands and ambulate.”

A doctor and one family member accompanied the patient during the transfer.

In response, Bomba dispatched the MI-171 helicopter (registration M994-03) from its air base for the Medevac operation.

The helicopter departed from Miri Airport at 10.30am, picked up the patient at Miri Hospital, and then flew to Sarawak Bomba headquarters in Tabuan Jaya, where it landed at 2.02pm.

Upon arrival, the patient was handed over to an SGH ambulance waiting at the helipad for further transport.

Once the transfer was completed, the helicopter returned to the Sarawak air base, having fulfilled its mission to assist in the patient’s emergency transport. – DayakDaily
