KUCHING, June 17: Former State Health director Dato Dr Yao Sii Chi was one of the retired veteran doctors who did not hesitate to answer the call of duty to help administer the Covid-19 vaccine to a group of media practitioners at Batu Kawa Health Clinic, one of the Covid-19 vaccine administering centres (PPV) yesterday.

Some 100 media frontliners were vaccinated at the Batu Kawa PPV last night.

According to Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Dr Yao, who retired as Sarawak Health director in 2004, Dr Ong Lak Sai and Dr William Voon were among the medical doctors responding to the call for the Covid-19 pandemic and volunteered to help with the evening vaccination at KK Batu Kawa last night.

“Thanks to the Sarawak Private Medical Practitioner Society (the young doctor, the veterans doctor, the general practitioner (GP), the medical specialist), UNIMAS, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) volunteers for stepping up and stepping forward to help with the extended hours of vaccination, first time private medical practitioners able have the opportunity to volunteer their service in the public facilities (matching the smart partnership) in our war with Covid-19.

“100 frontliner reporters from the MySejahtera list managed to have their first vaccination tonight.

“Though it is only 100, start small and scale up fast as Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) Kuala Lumpur promised to push 250 appointments from the MySejahtera list by Friday night,” Dr Sim said in a Facebook post last night. — DayakDaily
