Veteran politician Mawan retains Pakan with 714 majority

KUCHING, Dec 18: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) veteran politician and incumbent Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom retain the N47 Pakan seat with a simple majority of 714 votes.

Mawan, who represented the constituency since 1991, secured 3,268 votes, while his nearest rival is an independent candidate Tedung Gunda who garnered 2,554 votes.


The other three candidates in the five-cornered fight were Hereward Gramong Joseph Allen from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with 1,484 votes, Brawi Angguong, an Independent, with 506 votes, and Jemeli Kerah of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) with 133 votes.

Brawi and Jemeli both lost their fixed deposits.

N47 Pakan constituency has a total number of 11,154 voters.

Today, 71.23 per cent or 7,945 came out to vote for the 12th Sarawak Election. ― DayakDaily
